Building back up

After a month of no buffer, doing each day's comic on that day (and in one case until 2AM), in a burst of effort and some judicious art reuse, I've built the buffer back up to 3 days not counting tonight's comic. So I've posted the comics until Feb 5th, and if I can do it again tomorrow I can get the buffer back to a healthy state.

The Twelve Cartoons

Danish Imams Propose to End Cartoon Dispute | The Brussels Journal

In case you were curious about just what the twelve cartoons depicting Mohammed that have the Arab world in a carefully orchestrated uproar were about, the Brussels Journal is one of the few publications I can find on the web that reprints them rather than just mentioning them.

Update; I've closed comments and deleted the ones that people left. This isn't a public forum, and I have no reason to put up with the nutters who apparently spend all day Googling for some place to spill their poisonous invective. Muslims: you're not doing your cause any favors by teaching non-Muslims that you have no respect or understanding of the rights of others to free expression. And for the record, of course I think freedom of expression applies to blasphemous cartoons of Jesus. He's one of the most common characters in webcomics. I've drawn several myself. Non-Muslims: try to use your freedom of speech for something other than spewing hatred. Everyone: this is a blog about comics, cartoons, and cartooning. If you don't give a rat's ass about those, then go read something else.

Just in Case You Missed it

Hilarious Nightwing and Starfire cartoon.

Yikes!

SmackJeeves, the site that hosts my comic is down, with nothing but a notice from the hosting company that the site has been suspended and to contact the billing department.

I hope this is a temporary thing, easily resolved. Particularly since I just donated some money to keep SmackJeeves rolling. I don't know, maybe it's time to explore other options. I could bite the bullet and self-host, since I have the website; I'd just have to cobble together some scripts to manage the pages. I've also thought a little about setting up an account with Webcomics Nation; costs some money, but saves the development and maintenance hassle.

It's a Plot Against Webcomics, I tells ye!

Truth and Beauty Bombs Forum (the group forum for the webcomics Daily Dinosaur, Poppycock Theater, and a couple others I forget and can't look up now) has also been suspended by its host. My guess is that it's additional traffic because of the Garfield thread, but this is getting monotonous. All my favorite forums are vanishing into the ether....

Progress on fixing everything

I've managed to copy all the author's notes from the old SmackJeeves site to the new Webcomics Nation one. I've prepared a file that I've sent to Ryan North, which will (with any luck) let him change all the database entries on OhNoRobot to point to the new strips. I've updated the Extreme Tracking, onlinecomics.net and top webcomics sites with the new urls. I've set up a Live Journal feed (ljuser webamused) so that people can read the comics from LJ (just friend the feed and the comics will appear each day in your friends list).

Still to do: put a link to the store on the new site; upload some images to Zazzle; enable comments on all of the comics (currently only the most recent and oldest have comment capability); maybe copy the comments from the old site to the new site. Oh, yeah, and do more comics. Currently I have two in the buffer, down from seven just before disaster struck...

I'm exhausted. I'm going to bed.

Searchers

Apparently, the most common way for people to find my comic is to be searching for comics about Hermione Granger. Obviously, this calls for more Hermione comics! Can't disappoint the fans!
