On the one hand, dipping into webcomics based on topics that you know nothing whatsoever about can provide interesting glimpses of unfamiliar sub-cultures (much like reading David Morgan-Mar's Cricket Blog ). On the other hand, sometimes, like with this strip, you just don't get the joke.
update: I broke down and googled. VM apparently refers to a brand of paintball gun. Chronying is the act of using a chronograph to measure the speed of the paintballs, presumably to ensure they're still within the allowed limits given how much paintballers like to customize their guns.
